Marathon Stitch

Here is a quick tip on what to do if you get a stitch:

One of the worst things that can happen whilst either training or during your marathon race is
developing a stitch. The pain can cause your form to drop off or you could find yourself stopping altogether.

If you are like most beginner's then your first reaction is to stop and wait for your stitch to
disappear.

However, there is a little trick you can use to get yourself through...

You should find that your stitch will generally form on one side only. That is normal.

As you continue running, focus on which side your stitch is forming. Then, whenever your opposite foot strikes the pavement become conscious of breathing out fully.

For example, if your stitch is on your left then become conscious of breathing out fully whenever your right foot strikes the pavement.

If you follow this tip then you should find that after a few short moments your stitch has either
completely disappeared or the severity of the pain has dramatically decreased.
