Marathon Training
Injuries
When training for your marathon the single biggest killer is going
to be getting injured. If you are injured then you can not train to
the best of your ability and can delay your marathon preparation by
weeks if not months.
So how do you prevent costly injuries?
The best way is to make sure you have the correct trainers for
training for your marathon.
You should look for a trainer that offers enough comfort and
support. This depends from athlete to athlete, but ideally your
trainers should be around 10-12 ounces in weight and offer enough
rigidity for the miles you will have to train, yet also enough
cushioning to protect you from high stress levels.
The best way to select your trainers is to go to a specialist
athletics store, such as `Athletes Foot' and let the store assistant
know exactly how many miles you will be training each week. Also let
them know you are after a shoe that offers a balance
between adequate comfort and support.
As a tip, make sure you wear the same socks when you are trying on
your shoes that you will use when you train. That way you will know
that your
shoes are an exact fit and will minimize your risk of developing
blisters when you get into full training.
