Here's a quick tip about how to select the
best training shoes for your marathon preparation:
Because you will be covering hundreds of miles in your marathon
trainers, it is most important to select the trainer that is best
suited to your individual foot type. That way you will be less likely
to develop injuries, especially as your weekly mileage increases during
the later stages of your marathon preparation.
Before selecting a trainer, you should go to a specialist sporting
store such as 'Athlete's Foot' and determine whether you have high foot
arches (where your foot wants to roll inwards - supination), or if your
foot arches are relatively flat (where your foot wants to roll outwards
- pronation).
Once you are clear if you are either a supinator or a pronator you will
then be able to select the marathon trainer that will effectively
manage your risk of injury.
If you tend to supinate, then you should look for a marathon trainer
that has a high arch support. If you are a pronator then you should
look for a trainer that has a low arch support.
The sales people in the store should be able to point you in the right
direction once you are aware if you are either a pronator or a
supinator.
