Here is a quick tip on how to handle your
training sessions if you become sick:
If you become sick during your marathon preparation, it is probably the
best idea to
rest your body.
If you attempt to train through your illness like the majority of
amateur runners then you are not
giving your body the chance to recover because the training sessions
drain your body of the energy required to fight off the illness.
Generally, you should take 2-3 days off your marathon preparation and
even up to a week if the symptoms are more severe.
An exception to this is the type of symptoms that you are experiencing.
If you have a stuffy or
blocked nose and running eyes, then you should be able to train through
the illness.
The additional endorphins released in your body during your training
session will actually help
reduce the symptoms of this type of illness.
However if you are coughing and have a fever then you should allow your
body the time and energy to rest. If this is the case, then you should
continue your stretching routine in order to remain in top physical
condition when you resume training.
